When to come: the Costa Smeralda, week by week

The Costa Smeralda has a season within the season. Here is when it is at its quietest-best — and what fills the calendar in 2026.

The sweet spot

High summer is the coast's moment, and mid-June to mid-July is its finest stretch — the full energy of the season before the August crush, when the harbours, the light and the long lunches are at their best and the crowds have not yet arrived. It is the window a season is best planned around.

The 2026 calendar

The sailing weeks give the early season its rhythm: the regattas off Porto Cervo run from mid-June into early July, and the Porto Cervo Waterfront becomes an open-air evening promenade all summer into September. August brings its own festivals inland. In the busiest weeks the best tables and berths go early — which is exactly when holding them in advance matters most.

August, and the shoulders

August is the loud heart of the season — glorious, but at full volume; the shoulders, late June and early September, hold the same beauty with more room to breathe. For a quieter register, the office leans to the edges of the peak rather than its centre.

Why timing is the first decision

Everything else — the villa, the berth, the table, the boat at golden hour — follows from when. Decide the week, and the season arranges itself around it; leave it late in a regatta summer, and the best of the coast is already spoken for.

The first quiet luxury of a Costa Smeralda summer is simply choosing the right week — and having it held before anyone else asks.
